resolutions.
I just received a bunch of great photos taken by my good friend of JClements Photography from her visit a couple months back.  While most of the photos capture several epic meals we put on in her honor, there was this one of the early days in Lilleputt. I forgot she had taken this shot of me exploring the inner workings of an on/off switch while wiring a new extension cord to my Pfaff machine....

holiday cheer.
Enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with family and a very alert and cheerful nephew (he is so smiley!)… and eager to be back in the studio and put to use some of the helpful feedback I’ve gotten from friends and family (and some of the new fabrics I picked up). Back on my early morning schedule, and right to work! Some of my favorite local finds for gifts this year: Left, vintage-style...

and the days get longer.
My productivity seems to shut down early when it feels like 8pm at 4. But! Survived the shortest day of the year; and it only gets better from here. Spent yesterday ice skating around the slippery sidewalks of Portland finishing up (… or rather, doing all of) our christmas shopping. Lucky for me I had the steady arm of a handsom man to hang on to! So now it’s just putting the finishing...

snowflakes.
I think this is the first time in years that I’ve been excited about winter. In fact, I can’t remember the last time. It certainly wasn’t in New York, where winter is grey, wet and slushy. (Except for last years blizzard that shut down the city for days. That was fun). But walking through yesterday’s snow, with the streets white and empty, and the smell of a wood burning...

christmas comes early.
Soo excited! Finally got my first samples back from Spoonflower.com; and they did a beautiful job. I couldn’t be happier. And now that I know the colors are good, I can go ahead and order more to make tea towels for my etsy shop.  And the smaller teapot print was to play with scale for a possible apron application. With Spoonflower, you have the option of choosing pantones for your...

santa lucia.
Happy Santa Lucia day! Enjoying some warm glögg and kanelbullar. I was going to make the traditional lussekatter… until I saw the price on the saffron. So I made me cardamom/cinnamon filled buns… but shaped them like the lussekatter. A cozy evening enjoying the results of a cozy afternoon in the kitchen.

back on track.
Healthy at last! And it only took 9 days.  Bed’s made, dishes washed, kitty litter changed, trash and recycling ready to go out, and I’m in the studio at work by 7am. And computer break ends…. now. Sewing in my PJs, with my faithful, fuzzy seat warmer.

snail mail.
I got such a treat in the mail yesterday. Not only did I get the first holiday card of the season… I got 60+ other personal letters! A whole parcel full, in fact.  Stuffed full, its got all kinds of history in there.  My uncle came across all the letters my parents sent to my grandparents during their two years in the Peace Corps in Bolivia… I can’t remember what years,...

good things take time.
The contents of the crock pot was not brisket stew as I guessed, but a slow roasted brisket served over sweet potato mash. And it was fantastic. Still slowing moving today, and unfortunately still not sure if I’m on the way in or the way out of being sick, but I think that warm, delicious meal did me good.  Doing a little free-form sewing; no pattern making, just kind of eyeballing it and...

rainy days.
The clouds have broken finally for a beautifully cold and sunny day. Been hunkered down indoors for what feels like days fighting a cold, with it cold and rainy outside… Lucky for me my chef has a couple days off to cook for me instead of paying customers… so I’ve been eating well, watching Top Chef, napping and taking advantage of short bursts of energy to stay busy in the...

family photo.
Always a good start to my day to have a pretty sunrise. I like the solitary lit window in the sea of black.  Spent the day knitting away at my machine; finished stockings for the lot of us! Now I just have to fill Apple’s with catnip.

productive procrastination.
Tying up loose ends… painfully slowly.  But in spite of it feeling like a ‘meh’ day, it’s turned out rather productive.  Sent out some more fabric designs to be printed this morning; two weeks sounds like forever to get them back! I can’t wait. Highlight of my morning: Trader joe’s applewood smoked uncured bacon ends and pieces with onions and swiss chard....
